1. About this policy
Always Affordable Locksmiths is a trade name of A-1 Always Affordable Always Available Locksmiths Ltd, a locksmith and security company at 4114 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, Alberta T2G 2R7, Canada. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Always Affordable Locksmiths.
We are an Alberta business. We handle personal information in accordance with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to our website at www.affordablelocksmiths.com, to our online store, and to the products and services we provide.
Because of the nature of our business, some of the information we hold is sensitive. It can include the addresses of your home or business, details of your locks, safes and vehicles, and key and code records. We treat that information with a correspondingly high level of care.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact and identity details — name, business name, billing and service address, telephone number and email address.
- Order and account details — items purchased, order history, delivery addresses, and the username and password of any account you create on our website.
- Payment information — we take payment through third-party payment processors. Card numbers are handled by the processor and are not stored on our servers.
- Service information — the details you give us when you ask for locksmith, key, safe or lock work — including site addresses, vehicle information (make, model, year and VIN) for automotive key work, and the access arrangements of your premises.
- Correspondence — emails, web-form submissions, live-chat messages, text messages, and notes taken from telephone calls.
Information we collect automatically
- Technical and usage data — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, the page that referred you, and the dates and times of your visits. This is collected using cookies and similar technologies — see section 5.
- Call tracking numbers — if you reach our website from one of our online advertisements, you may see a different telephone number for us. It rings the same office and tells us which advertisement led to your call. Our phone system records the number you called from, the number you dialled, and the time and length of the call. The website keeps a note in your browser for the length of your visit only; it sets no cookie and shares nothing with any third party.
Information created when we serve you
- Records of the work performed, including service reports, photographs of the work where relevant, system configuration details, and warranty and maintenance history.
Information from other sources
- Enquiries passed to us by advertising and lead platforms, such as Google Local Services Ads. These may include your name, telephone number and the enquiry you made and, where the platform records calls, a recording or transcript of your call to us. That recording is made by the platform, which is responsible for notifying you of it.
- Credit and trade references, where you apply for a commercial account with us.
3. Why we collect it
- To identify you and respond to your enquiries and quotation requests.
- To provide, schedule, perform and invoice the products and services you order.
- To confirm that a person requesting access to a property, product, code or system is entitled to it.
- To take payment and to prevent fraud.
- To maintain warranty, service and maintenance records.
- To meet our legal, insurance, tax and licensing obligations, including those that apply to licensed locksmiths in Alberta.
- To improve our website and our services.
- To send you service-related messages and, where you have consented, marketing messages. You can withdraw consent to marketing at any time using the unsubscribe link in any message, or by contacting us.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Consent
We collect, use and disclose personal information with your consent, except where the law allows or requires us to act without it. Consent may be express — for example when you tick a box or sign a work order — or implied by your actions, for example when you place an order or ask us to attend your premises.
You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide some or all of our services to you — for example, we cannot cut or program a key without holding the details needed to verify that you are entitled to it.
5. Cookies and website tools
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. A notice about them appears at the bottom of the page on your first visit. By continuing to use the site, you agree to the analytics and advertising cookies described below. You can opt out of them at any time, and your choice takes effect straight away. In summary:
- Essential cookies keep you signed in, remember your shopping cart and keep the site secure. The site does not work properly without them.
- Analytics cookies tell us how the site is used so that we can improve it.
- Advertising cookies measure how well our advertising works, and may be used to show you our advertisements on other websites.
Opting out. To turn off analytics and advertising cookies, use the Opt out link in the cookie notice, or opt out now. We remember your choice on this browser and device for two years, or until you clear your cookies. If you change your mind, you can opt back in. Opting out does not affect essential cookies or the live-chat tool.
Our online store platform, BigCommerce, also records basic visit and order statistics for our own store reporting. This is part of running the online store, and opting out does not affect it.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop parts of the site from working.
Our website may also offer a live-chat tool. If you use it, the content of your conversation and any contact details you give in it are collected and stored by us and by the provider of that tool.
6. Who we share it with
We share personal information only as far as is necessary, with:
- Service providers acting on our behalf — including our website and business-software hosting provider, payment processors, shipping and courier companies, email and messaging providers, and advertising platforms. They may use the information only for the purposes we specify.
- Manufacturers, distributors and subcontractors, where necessary to fulfil an order, honour a warranty, or complete work at your site.
- Our affiliated companies — 310LOCK, Cypress Security Products and Trackcess — where you deal with more than one of them, or where an order is fulfilled between them.
- Law enforcement or other authorities, where we are required or permitted by law to do so, or where it is necessary to investigate suspected fraud or a threat to safety.
Storage outside Canada. Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States and the European Union. While information is in another country it is subject to the laws of that country, and may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that country. You may contact our Privacy Officer for more information about our practices in this respect.
7. How we protect it
We protect personal information using physical, organisational and technical safeguards appropriate to how sensitive it is. These include controlled premises and locked storage for sensitive records, individual accounts and access controls on our business systems, encryption of our websites and of information in transit, and limiting access to those employees and contractors who need it to do their work.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify the individuals affected and the relevant Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
8. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as it is needed for the purposes it was collected for, and to meet our legal, tax, warranty and insurance obligations. Financial and tax records are generally kept for at least seven years. Key, code and security records are kept for as long as we service the lock, vehicle or system and for a reasonable period afterwards, because they may be needed to verify a later request. When information is no longer needed, we destroy, erase or anonymise it securely.
9. Your rights
Subject to the limited exceptions set out in law, you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you, and be given access to it;
- be told how that information has been used, and to whom it has been disclosed;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- withdraw your consent to our use of it, as described in section 4.
To make a request, contact our Privacy Officer using the details below. We may ask you to verify your identity before we act — particularly for requests about key, code or security records, where releasing information to the wrong person would create a safety risk. We will respond within 45 days, or tell you if we need an extension that the law permits. There is no charge for most requests; if a fee would apply, we will give you an estimate first.
